“You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways. When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’ Then He will save the humble person. He will even deliver one who is not innocent; Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”” Job 22:27-30 NKJV
“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15 NKJV
How do you go from calling someone an acquaintance to a friend? How do you go from knowing someone to trusting them?
I was in the hospital this past weekend; it happened to be a hospital I had never stayed at. I was treated with kindness and respect. What was a bit strange was, you’d think I would have gravitated towards what I knew to be familiar, but I didn’t this time.
I realize that sometimes we do gravitate towards familiarity, especially because what is familiar can be comfortable- even though it isn’t always what is good.
I think in order to put trust in someone, we must have proof that the person we are trusting is in fact trustworthy. I think this is especially important when you are sick and vulnerable. It’s important for both you and your family. I think families and patients should have conversations about their needs and about trust. There is often times where this is a subject we shy away from because we already feel as if we are a burden, and so we shouldn’t be asking for more. There is already so much taking place when someone is so sick and we don’t want to stir up more. I thank God that He is my friend and that He can be trusted.
